Congregational Care Ministry

The mission of the Congregational Care Committee (formerly fellowship) is to provide a nurture caring relationships in the congregation through opportunities that grow fellowship among our members, friends and visitors both spiritually and socially and to encourage our entire ELC family to be a part of this mission.

Our vision for 2019 includes incorporating some new activities as well as enhancing some of our current duties to be more efficient and inclusive.

Areas of concern for a Care Team is:

Social Fun – This Team includes our dining out group, book club and social ministry. This Team is responsible for family fun nights, theme meals off-site activities (i.e. camping, canoeing, sporting events, trips to attractions, etc.)

Meal Ministry – this Team plans and hosts fellowship meals, recruits volunteers to supply and host our Sunday coffee hour, Lenten and Advent suppers, and providing meals or refreshments for funeral or memorials.

Agape Women’s Group – This Team provides guidance and direction for women of ELC as they move forward in faith and mission through prayer and evangelism.

Secret Sisters – This Team daily prays for their secret sister, send notes of encouragement, provides anonymous gifts/treats throughout the year culminating with a reveal party at Christmastime around a shared meal.

New Teams planned for the future:

Implementation of these Teams will depend on identifying members with these specific interests.

College Support Team – a group who would prepare and send care packages to college students with frequency each semester.

New Member Team – This group would lead ‘Invitation” events (bring a friend, block parties, etc.), organize ‘servant evangelism events (pass out wters to joggers, batteries for smoke detectors, snacks in the park), and host ‘appreciation ceremonies’ (teachers, polices, fire, first responders). They welcome new members with appropriate recognition and celebration and coordinate congregational sponsors who shepherd new members during their first year, to help assimilate them into the ELC family.

2019 Congregational Care Committee Goals:

  • Enhance Meal Ministry with committee chairs leading Meal Trains for members when needed.
  • Enhance Social Fun Team by revitalizing a women’s circle to meet monthly on a weekday and increase outreach to non-working women of ELC.
  • Begin and outreach program for ELC members in college (locally or long distance) with communication and care packages on a regular basis.
  • Start a Member Care Team

CONGREGATIONAL CARE TEAMS INCLUDE:

Social Fun

This Team includes our dining out group, book club and social ministry. This Team is responsible for family fun nights, theme meals off-site activities (i.e. camping, canoeing, sporting events, trips to attractions, etc.)

Monthly Dining: Each month a local restaurant is selected for members of ELC and their friends to come and enjoy food and fellowship. There is a sheet on the Events Table for everyone to sign up for each monthly event. If anyone has questions, they my contact Linda Cotterman.

Meals Ministry

This Team plans and hosts fellowship meals, recruits volunteers to supply and host our Sunday coffee hour, Lenten and Advent suppers, and providing meals or refreshments for funeral or memorials.

Congregational members (including youth ages 12 & up) have been grouped alphabetically into “Congregational Care Groups” to serve together. A Group Leader(s) will be identified within each “Congregational Care Group” that will organize and solicit volunteers for the group assignments. The “Congregational Care Groups” will be responsible for set-up before and clean-up after the meal as well as providing the food.

The “Congregational Care Groups” will serve during the Sunday morning coffee hour. This method will mean that nobody will be responsible for serving Sunday coffee hour more than once or twice a year.

By organizing members in this way, every ELC member becomes involved and integrated into serving our Lord and each other as they are able.

Agape Women's Team

This Team provides guidance and direction for women of ELC as they move forward in faith and mission through prayer and evangelism.

Agape (Greek) means selfless, sacrificial, unconditional love, the highness of the four types of love in the Bible. It perfectly describes the kind of love Jesus has for his Father & for his followers. “Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and show myself to them. (John 14:21).”

As sisters in Christ, we dedicate ourselves to guide and direct the women of ELC in their efforts to move forward in faith and mission, through  prayer and evangelism, with the Holy Scriptures as the ultimate authority of God.
